13th Annual ECCHS Athletic Association Golf Outing a Success

On Saturday, July 8th , the 13th Annual Elk County Catholic High School Athletic Association Golf Scramble was held at the Leaning Pines Golf Course in St. Marys. The tournament included 26 teams participating in the four-person scramble on a beautiful summer day. Participants of the tournament included coaches, alumni, parents, supporters, and friends of the Elk County Catholic School System.

This annual golf event provides an opportunity for friends and supporters of ECC athletics to get together and have an enjoyable day of golf. The tournament also serves as a fundraiser for the Athletic Association whose mission is to raise the necessary funds to support the entire athletic programs at ECC. The Athletic Association annual raises over $135,000 in support of Crusader Athletics.

This year’s tournament included both a morning and afternoon group. Golfers enjoyed a beautiful day of fun, fellowship and great competition. The team of Lindsey Straub, A.J. Straub, Chris Krieg, and Lee Cunningham took low gross honors with a score of 56. Low net honors, in a match of cards, went to the team of Scott Wehler, James Slay, Tommy Slay, and Alec Wehler with a net score of 55. The team of Steve Straub, Brad Meholic, Fran Inzana, and Len Schreiber finished runner-up in low net with a score of 56. The team of Tom Fledderman, Danielle Fledderman, Pat Struble, and Vicki Struble where the top alumni team with a gross score of 57 and net score of 56.

The team of Ken Valentine, George Jerko, Jack Gerber, and Dave Geci took home the “quick draw” title with a net score of 61. Finaly, four teams spit the Honest John category. The teams included: Anthony Muccio, Yvonne Muccio, Nick Chamberlin, and Leah Chamberlin who predicted a score of -8 and ended with a gross score of 62. Ken Pistner, Alec Pistner, Kirstie Pistner, and Marsha Pistner also predected -8 and finished with a gross score of 62. Robert Wolfel Jr, Jim Pfingstler, Am Kreig, and Bill Kreig predicted a score of -10 and finished with a gross score of 60. Finally, Jeff Radkowski, Garrett Hurd, Travis Menteer, and Travis Wendel predicted a score of -10 and finished with a gross score of 60.

Skill prizes went to Stacy McKee (women’s long putt, #8/#17); Danielle Fledderman (women’s closest to the pin, #4/#13); Travis Wendel (men’s long drive, #6/#15); Fran Levenduski (long putt, #9/#18); Tyler Wehler (closest to the Crusader, Gold); Shelly Straub (closest to the Crusader, Maroon); Craig Kronenwetter (long putt, #7/#16); and Steve Straub (closest to the pin, #5/#14).

The tournament committee acknowledges its donors for their special contributions: Pete’s Pepperoni, Triple Nickel, Crescent Beer, DePrator’s Beverage, Dino’s Place, the ECCHS Alumni Association, the ECCSS Advancement Office, Northwest Savings Bank, St. Marys Beverage, Straub Brewery, and The River 98.9, as well as the business sponsors and EITC donors who help support Elk County Catholic School System throughout the entire year.
