Thursday’s Alumni Spotlight is Emily Fritz!

Emily is a 1992 ECCHS graduate and earned her bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood/Elementary Education from Edinboro University. Emily continued her education at Indiana Wesleyan University where she received her Master’s degree in Curriculum Instruction and Technology, where she received the outstanding professional award for academics, integrity, collegiality, justice, and Christian values.

Emily lives in Bay Village, OH and currently teaches second grade at Buhrer Dual Language PreK-8 Academy, in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District. She will be starting her 24th year in 2020-2021.

“ECCHS provided me with an education that was second to none,” said Emily. “In college, I was recognized in my English courses for my English/language arts abilities.  I felt incredibly prepared for dealing with the academic challenges and rigor of college courses because ECCHS created in me a sense of work ethic that was beyond what my peers were exposed to.  I was constantly challenged at ECC, while at the same time supported by the teachers there.  In addition, the foundation of faith, set first with my parents and family, then, at St. Leo’s School, and finally at ECC, helped me get through many of life’s challenges.  Even though I teach in the public school system in Cleveland, I use the faith given to me through ECCHS to create students who are kind, compassionate, loving, accepting, empathetic, and well-informed.  I always wanted to be a teacher, and there were plenty of role models and examples of what teaching and teachers looked like, and how they impacted the world, and I can only hope I have the impact on my students that my teachers in the Elk County Catholic School System had on me.  I am grateful for all that SLS and ECCHS provided for me.”
