Preschoolers are naturally born engineers. They like to ask why things work. Engineering for preschoolers is the process of building and designing something to solve a problem. The children in Mrs. Roberts’s four-year-old preschool class were each given a toilet paper tube, popsicle sticks, and red puff balls. They were asked, “How would you build an apple tree using these things?” They were stumped at first but after some attempts, one student figured it out and the rest followed. They counted the apples on their trees and then drew the apple trees in their journals. When they finished, they visited YouTube to research the machines that are used to pick apples off tree limbs. At the end of the project, they thanked God for all of the things he has given us.
