6th Annual ECCHS Athletic Association Golf Outing a Success

On Saturday, July 2 the 6th Annual Elk County Catholic High School Athletic Association Golf Outing was held at the Leaning Pines Golf Course in St. Marys. The tournament saw 12 teams participate in the four-person scramble on a perfect sunny summer day. Participants of the tournament included coaches, alumni, parents, supporters, and friends of the Elk County Catholic School System.

The intent behind the annual event is two-fold: it’s a chance for friends and supporters of ECC athletics to get together and have some fun, and it also acts as a fundraiser for the Athletic Association. The association is responsible for raising the necessary funds to support all the athletic programs at ECC, more than $120,000 each year. Sports available to students that attend ECCHS include baseball, basketball, cross country, tennis, football, golf, cheerleading, track and field, volleyball, soccer, and softball on the varsity, junior varsity, and junior high levels. Seventh and eighth grade students who attend St. Marys Catholic Middle School are also able to participate in select programs on the junior high level. In addition, ECCHS has cooperative programs in swimming and diving, gymnastics, and wrestling with St. Marys Area High School.

After all 18 holes were played, the team of Pat Struble, Vicki Struble, George Schneider, and Lianne Schneider took low gross honors with a score of 57, while the team of Mark Sherman, Dave Fuhrman, Brian Hobbs, and Tim Walters won low net honors with a score of 54. The second place low net winners were Mike DaCanal, Mary DaCanal, Randy DaCanal, and Fran DaCanal with their score of 55. Coming in as the top alumni team was the team of AJ Straub, Lindsey Straub, Chris Krieg and Dave Krieg with a gross score of 58. Rounding out the circle of winners was the team of Tony Azzato, Travis Skrzypek, Andy Rettger, and Joe Muccio as they successfully predicted their Honest John score.

Skill prizes went to Lindsey Straub (women’s long putt, #8/#17); Lianne Schneider (women’s closest to the pin, #4/#13); Jacoby Curtis (men’s long drive, #6/#15); George Schneider (long putt, #9/#18); Dave Fuhrman (closest to the Crusader, #3/#12); Brian Hobbs (long putt, #7/#16); and Mark Sherman (closest to the pin, #5/#14).

The tournament committee acknowledges its donors for their special contributions: Bavarian Hills Golf Course, Beauty 210, Crescent Beer, Dave’s Pro Shop, DePrator’s Beverage, Dino’s Place, the ECCHS Alumni Association, the ECCSS Advancement Office, the ECCHS Future Business Leaders of America Chapter, Gunners Restaurant, Northwest Savings Bank, St. Marys Beverage, Straub Brewery, The River 98.9, and Val’s Embroidery as well as the business sponsors and EITC donors who help support Elk County Catholic School System throughout the entire year.
