ECCSS has a comprehensive drama program from grades preschool through 12. Read on to find out more information about the performances that are held at each school.

Elementary School

At St. Marys Catholic Elementary School, students have an introduction to the stage as they put on grade-level performances that entertain and delight their families and friends.

Middle School

Under the direction of Mrs. Chelsea Burkett, St. Marys Catholic Middle School students produce a Junior version of some of today’s most popular musicals. Mrs. Burkett is joined by Mrs. Marsan O’Leary (assistant director) and Mrs. Lisa Daghir (artwork coordinator).

The “Junior shows” are a perfect way to further students joy of performing. They are complete and contain all of the core elements (story-line, characters, and musicality) of the original shows. Middle school productions aim to both entertain and engage the audience.

Performances have included:

  • The Wizard of Oz Jr.
  • High School Musical Jr.
  • Godspell Jr.
  • Disney’s Little Mermaid Jr.
  • Flat Stanley Jr.
  • Disney’s Aladdin Jr.

High School

Musicals at Elk County Catholic High School have not only become a celebration of student talent but also allow a chance for the entire Elk County community to come together in support of our students’ talents and abilities. A slew of parents, former parents, family members, and friends volunteer their time to help with hair, makeup, set and prop construction, sound and lights. A live orchestra composed of professional adults sit side-by-side with student musicians to provide the musical accompaniment. After months of practice, all the aspects of the performance are integrated seamlessly so that when the lights go on, students can shine both in the footlights on stage and in the not-often-seen, but just as important, backstage production. At the high school level, students entertain and inspire the audience with full-blown performances of popular Broadway musicals. The most recent musical, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, was under the direction of Mr. Jason Phipps. Prior to this, Mr. Ted Hanes directed dozens of musicals during his time at ECCHS.

Performances have included:

  • Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
  • The Addams Family
  • Shrek the Musical
  • Seussical
  • Children of Eden
  • Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
  • Cinderella
  • Aida
  • Little Shop of Horrors
  • Guys and Dolls
  • Jesus Christ Superstar
  • Into the Woods
  • Honk!
  • Fiddler on the Roof
  • The Music Man
  • Godspell

Summer Camp Program

During the summer of 2012, “Adventures in Learning,” the first-ever ECCSS Summer Camp program was initiated. The program continues, and camps are open to all students throughout the region. They focus in the areas of religion, academics, sports, character-building, and, of course, the arts.

The summer Drama Camp, which is under the direction of Mrs. Chelsea Burkett, is open to students entering grades 4 – 9 who are interested in putting on a Junior version of a Broadway musical. High school students assist in directing and producing the show. Throughout the week-long program, students learn lines, music, and choreography in preparation for a performance at the culmination of the camp which is open to the public.
